2021 Wrap-up. Welcoming 2022

It was tough, but I did it

Three days ago, I finally finished writing Engineerium, the second novel of my steampunk trilogy The Cerulean Airship, and I would call this my most important achievement for 2021. Mainly because it was quite an abrupt road. I had months when writing went smoothly. So smoothly, in fact, that I was almost certain it would be done somewhere in the summer. Well, life got in the way (I assure you, being an author with a full-time job is difficult), and in early autumn I realized I was waaay behind my initial schedule. Of course, I panicked and set a goal: to finish it before the year’s end. Which I did, albeit it cost me my disappearance from social media. I dedicated every ounce of spare time I had to writing. It was a close call, but I managed to reach my goal. Now I can sit back and relax until March when Engineerium will be out in the world…

No, not really

In 2022 I’ll be working on two new writing projects in parallel. One of them is Caelium, the last novel in my steampunk trilogy, and the other one… well, I don’t know yet whether it will be a standalone novel or the first book in a series. What I do know is that it will be set in Victorian London (of course) and will have a touch of fantasy. Kind of a Gaslamp Victorian story, which my fingers are already itching to outline.

My other, more complex, writing project, The Light Beyond the Dust, is progressing slowly, and that is because it’s something I have been planning for years, and rushing it would be a bad idea. Perhaps it will take me about two years to complete that one.

This Time I won’t Plan Big

Because plans can easily turn into dust for reasons that are completely out of my control. But, as an author, I intend to focus on productivity, and set a clear schedule to improve it. As 2021 showed me, working chaotically leads to poor productivity. Since I’m usually a quite organized person, I hope this goal will be easy to achieve.

Expect more posts on my blog, because I have tons of things to share, especially interesting bits from the research I’ve done for my novels.

I also intend to attend some events, if the pandemic will allow. One of them is the London Book Fair in April, and the other is Mark Dawson’s Self Publishing Show, also in London.

Hopefully, 2022 will be a better, and, most importantly, pandemicless year.

Happy New Year!

I'm an indie author, translation industry professional, and former magazine editor, with a passion for steampunk, cyberpunk, and historical fiction. My debut novel Laevium, a steampunk story set in Neo-Victorian London, is available from most major online bookstores.
